La dimostrazione dell’eziologia professionale di una broncopneumopatia cronica ostruttiva (BPCO) è spesso oggetto di controversie in quanto la BPCO é malattia multifattoriale, frequente nella popolazione generale. Molti studi confermano una auentata prevalenza di "bronchite industriale" tra gli esposti a polveri minerali, mentre non c'e accordo unanime sul fatto che tale esposizione sia responsabile di significativa ostruzione bronchiale e aumento di mortalita. Dato che non esiste una "prova' inequivocabile che attesti l'origine professionale della BPCO, la diagnosi clinica sarà basata su una serie di valutazioni che giustifichino, con ragionevole probabilità, il rapporto causale con il lavoro, indipendentemente dal fumo di sigaretta. II presente contributo vuole fornire alcune valutazioni sull'argomento.
